Luisa Lambri - Maureen Gallace
22.10.2016 - 08.01.2017

Luisa Lambri - Maureen Gallace is the twelfth exhibition held in the ex-kindergarten of Bruzella, home of the Rolla Foundation.
The photographs, paintings and drawing are from the private collection of Rosella and Philip Rolla who on this occasion are exhibiting four photographs by Luisa Lambri, and four paintings and a drawing by Maureen Gallace.

Luisa Lambri - photographer - and Maureen Gallace - painter -, both prominent international figures in their respective fields, both having a new and distinctive approach to visual art, are presented together for the first time.

Philip Rolla: “When Luisa saw the Maureen Gallace paintings in our home she remarked that Gallace was one of her favorite artists. The thought came to me that a space with Luisa Lambri photographs and Maureen Gallace paintings in it, and nothing else, would be a paradise.”

Maureen Gallace

Gallace is an artist who works within the self-imposed con - fines of a rigorously limited scale and subject matter. She is a painter of small, unpeopled landscapes in which a modest number of elements - a house, a barn, bushes, grass, sky - recur with a quietly mesmerising insistence. In focusing on a particularly favored motif, the idealised form of a window - less white New England cottage, Gallace succeeds in iso - lating something universally familiar yet utterly mysterious. Maureen Gallace has exhibited internationally in solo and group shows at: The Art Institute of Chicago, Dallas Museum of Art, MoMA PS1, Whitney Biennial and in many other institutions and galleries.
Luisa Lambri

Her photographs are concerned with the poetics and politics of space. For many years the artist has explored the interior details of modernist buildings, mostly private residencies, whose vacant and peripheral spaces are framed by fragments of light and the passage of time. Her images are a form of selfportraiture that elaborates on the psychological and emotional responses that architectural spaces elicit from their inhabit - ants. The photographs are emotionally rich, yet understated abstract compositions that evoke situations of transcendence and spirituality. She has exhibited internationally in prestigious institutions and galleries. She lives and works in Milan and Los Angeles.
